Oman 2008

Our second trip to a desert. This time we went to Oman, after having done a trip in Sudan (2006). Like in Sudan we got help from Carla @ Viaggi di Maurizio Levi in Milan.

We started the trip in Muscat with our driver Janssen (great driver). Equipped with tent, kitchen, food and water we headed for the mountains and crossed over to Nizwa. The last night in a hotel bed. After that we started to enter the Wahiba desert and crossed going south to the sea (2 nights in camp).

Driving through the desert with no roads or signs (GPS fixpoints only) is not something for beginners. Our driver Janssen (who also participates in the Dubai rally) made it an exiting and thrilling experience.

We reached the sea at Al Khaluf and spent two nights along the coast on deserted beaches with dolphins, turtles and lots of fish (dead wale on beach).

After a week in a Toyota Land Cruiser we arrived back in Muscat where we spent some days at the beach (in a Hotel!).

    The only people living along the coast are fishermen. The sea is increadable rich with fish. The series of pictures show when a catch of sardines is being brought to the beach.
